Top 50 Hokies & Sons of Saturday Website Introduction
The Sons of Saturday have been sending good vibes through the podcast airwaves since September 2019. Pat, Billy and Grayson all have different backgrounds from the gridiron to the (class) president’s office, but the thing that binds them all is a love and passion for Virginia Tech. Through “footballery” to “assistery” to “Sons of snacks” and “Sons of Ut Prosim” they have been making their listener’s commutes and work days a little easier with game recaps and high profile interviews. Their brand goes beyond just a fun podcast however.
In the world of COVID-19, everyone has been impacted in one way or another. From New Jersey to Los Angeles, the Sons of Saturday have organized vital efforts to rejuvenate their beloved Blacksburg community. They raised over $3,500 for The Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry and The New River Community Action - Montgomery Food Bank to help support families in need. They have put out heartfelt videos to commemorate the class of 2020 who had a vastly different last few months of their senior years.
The Sons of Saturday will continue their growth and development this July with a new website to continue to bring content to the masses of Hokie fans and beyond. To roll out the red carpet for this website they will be organizing an elite group of the top 50 Hokies. Many influential and motivated people have graced the beautiful campus in Blacksburg, VA from high profile scientists to decorated military personnel to professional athletes in multiple sports. This list will include them all and many more. Each individual will have a profile of their life achievements and impact on society. Hokies of all generations and ages will be featured with all of them possessing the Virginia Tech motto of Ut Prosim at the center of their mentality.
The first member of this exalted crew will be announced and highlighted on July 15th on the website and the Sons of Saturday twitter. From there we will add a new member every day. The list will culminate with number one on September 5th, which is expected to be the first game of the 2020 season. This list will be in no particular order but will just be our conglomerate of 50 inspiring individuals associated with the university. For the sake of balance, the list will consist of 25 individuals from an athletic background and 25 from a non-athletic background. Stay tuned every day for a new article and keep up with the Scribes of Saturday releasing their pieces daily.
