Former Blue Devil SG Jaden Schutt Announces His Move to VT

On Saturday, former Duke Blue Devil Jaden Schutt announced his commitment to play at Virginia Tech for the 2024-25 season.

The 4-star recruit out of Yorkville Christian High School in Illinois was a top 50 player in the 2022 recruiting class and the #9 SG in the nation by ESPN coming out of high school. Earning the 2022 Gatorade Player of the Year award for the state of Illinois, Schutt dominated on the court, boasting 24.6 PPG. Standing 6'5", Schutt shot 52% from the field and 39% from three, widely regarded as one of the best shooters from his class.

Schutt committed to Duke before his senior year in September of 2021. The Mustangs then went 25-13, closing out the season with an 11-game win streak to claim the Class 1A state title in 2022.

In his freshman season at Duke, Schutt played in 14 games, averaging seven minutes per contest. Against UMES, he played a career-high 19 minutes, nailing 3-3 triples. Schutt played just 12 minutes last season, scoring six against UNC Pembroke in Duke's season opener before redshirting and undergoing left knee surgery.

Schutt can do it all from range. Whether he's off balance, pulling up for a jumper, or simply spot-shooting, Schutt is lights out. He should factor in well with the rest of the offense as a strong kick-out option or for open threes with a high screen. He'll space the floor well and be a great addition to Mike Young's team which seems to get even more exciting by the week.

Me Ronnie

Born into a family of Hokies, I can remember watching Frank Beamer and Tyrod Taylor on Saturdays with the family, so attending VT was always the dream.

In 2020, I began my time at Virginia Tech in the Sports Media Analytics program and eventually joined the Sons in January of 2023 as the softball beat writer. Now, I’ve got football, basketball, and baseball coverage, plus you’ll see some of my photographs in articles throughout the website.

Graduation is on the horizon, but I can’t wait to come back in the fall to begin my Master’s and continue working with the team!
