Highly Touted DMV Defensive Tackle Emmett Laws Commits to Virginia Tech
The game of football is decided in the trenches, and powerful DMV product Emmett Laws provides pure strength and tenacity to the Virginia Tech defensive line room. Laws, a 6’0”, 260lb defensive tackle, can rip offensive lineman off of him and smother the quarterback. He is ranked as the 19th best defensive tackle in his class and the best in his home state of Maryland.
Laws had many suitors pushing for his commitment before he locked it in to VT. DMV recruiting giant Penn State was his first major offer in December of 2021. VT Defensive Line Coach JC Price extended an offer to him in April of the following year. Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Boston College, and Maryland also offered him. The hire of former Dematha High head coach Elijah Brooks helped the Hokies land the talented Laws.
He visited Blacksburg for a spring practice to observe Coach Price working with his position group. He will return to Tech in June for an official visit.
Laws plays for powerhouse Dematha High (MD), a breeding ground for great defensive lineman. Pro-Bowlers Chase Young and Cameron Wake played on Fridays for the Stags. They boasted a 10-1 record before losing in the playoffs to another power in St. Johns. They are lead by Coach Bill McGregor. He has been coaching the Stags for 33 years and has lead 375 players to receive full scholarships. With Coach Brooks on board, the Hokies will continue to recruit Dematha and the WCAC conference.
Emmett Laws is very physical and has a high motor. He is very technically sound and coachable. He fits the build of great Bud Foster type lineman. Brent Pry was a grad assistant in Blacksburg when a similar player to Laws was wrecking offensive lines everywhere, Cornell Brown. Laws plays a lot like his new position coach, JC Price.
There is nothing better for a coach to have a player that mastered the fundamentals and is very coachable. Laws has a very high football IQ and play recognition. Laws has the tools to get into the rotation early and make a name for himself in Blacksburg
