Week 13: VT at UVA

Good morning Hokies! It’s the game you’ve all been waiting for. The Commonwealth Cup is up for grabs once again. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in enemy territory (Charlottesville), and the game will be on the ACC Network.

Game Outlook

The pressure is once again on Tech. While out of the ACC Championship Game, it’s a win-or-go-home day for VT. A win means one more chance to see the Hokies play, and a loss, immense shame, and the end of the season.

Virginia Tech did not look good against NC State. Hopefully, the Hokies come out hot against the Cavaliers and move the ball early. The defense needs to hold strong and keep the QB under pressure. It comes down to which version of VT comes to the field tomorrow. Is it the team with over 500 yards that doesn’t let Syracuse get a first down? Or is it the team that gets away from a solid run game and repeatedly goes three-and-out?

UVA has some crazy wins for a 3-1 team, including Duke and No. 10 UNC. They also played a solid game against No. 11 Louisville, losing 24-31. History is against them with only two wins in the 2000s, but VT needs to play with fury or it could go the other way.

Weather

It’s gonna be a chilly one this week. With temperatures in the 30s and 40s, I’m definitely recommending pants and a coat. Even if it’s not that cold early on, at those temps it’ll get to you eventually.

Me Ronnie

Born into a family of Hokies, I can remember watching Frank Beamer and Tyrod Taylor on Saturdays with the family, so attending VT was always the dream.

In 2020, I began my time at Virginia Tech in the Sports Media Analytics program and eventually joined the Sons in January of 2023 as the softball beat writer. Now, I’ve got football, basketball, and baseball coverage, plus you’ll see some of my photographs in articles throughout the website.

Graduation is on the horizon, but I can’t wait to come back in the fall to begin my Master’s and continue working with the team!
