Week 2: VT vs. Purdue

Good morning Hokies! Week 2 of college football has arrived in Blacksburg, with Virginia Tech taking on Purdue today at noon. Gates open at 10am, with the game also being broadcast on ESPN2 and over the air on 105.3 “The Bear.” It's also the annual Orange Effect game and this year's VT Sports Hall of Fame class will be honored at halftime.

Game Changers

Ali Jennings had a great game against his former team last week. With five Receptions for 72 yards with two touchdowns, Jennings was a problem for ODU’s defense. After just one game in maroon and orange, you know Jennings will be a huge focus for Purdue's defensive squad.

Purdue’s interior rushing could be a make-or-break today. Their QB/RB pair of Hudson Card and Devin Mockobee might pose a big problem for Tech’s interior defense, which didn’t fair well against Old Dominion. If VT can hold strong at the line, Purdue is going to find it difficult moving the ball down the field.

Weather

Saturday might not be the best football weather, so pack a poncho or jacket on your way out. Potential for thunderstorms to start around noon, hopefully, the weather won’t affect play too much.

Me Ronnie

Born into a family of Hokies, I can remember watching Frank Beamer and Tyrod Taylor on Saturdays with the family, so attending VT was always the dream.

In 2020, I began my time at Virginia Tech in the Sports Media Analytics program and eventually joined the Sons in January of 2023 as the softball beat writer. Now, I’ve got football, basketball, and baseball coverage, plus you’ll see some of my photographs in articles throughout the website.

Graduation is on the horizon, but I can’t wait to come back in the fall to begin my Master’s and continue working with the team!
