Hokie Hitter: Rutgers
What Happened Saturday?
The Hokies fell to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 26-23 last Saturday. In this game there were a few breakdowns in all three phases of the game, but one play in particular really gave the Hokies defense fits. Its was an RPO play that Rutgers ran off of split zone option look that was in essence, a quadruple option. Rutgers ran this play almost a dozen times throughout the game and used motion and formation to get the Hokies outnumbered. The Hokies eventually made the necessary adjustments but it took a toll on the Hokies and allowed Rutgers to build a lead that turned out to be insurmountable.
10:27 1st Quarter
This play, Rutgers uses orbit motion from the slot receiver to get our linebackers out of alignment and allow the H Back to get into the flats for a big gain.
5:56 2nd Quarter
This is a different modification of the same play. Rutgers starts in trips and uses the slot receiver in a jet motion across to vacate the play side flat. The linebackers were dedicated to stopping the run and this allowed the Rutgers quarterback to find his target downfield.
