End of an era.
On Tuesday morning, Virginia Tech announced that Kenny Brooks has accepted the head coaching role at Kentucky.
Brooks led the Hokies to unprecedented heights in Women’s Basketball including a Final Four appearance and ACC Tournament Championship in 2023. Under his watch, the Hokies developed multiple WNBA draft picks, two All Americans, and three time ACC Player of the Year, Elizabeth Kitley. Since 2016 when Brooks came to Blacksburg, the Hokies are 180-82 overall with a 76-60 record in ACC play, consistently considered the best conference in the nation.

The Hokies have grown into a national brand over the past few seasons, making the NCAA Tournament in four consecutive seasons and posting a 6-3 record. The program has been an integral part in the growing popularity of the sport, with high profile matchups against Iowa, LSU, and elite ACC competition driving viewership records.
The program will look to make a significant hire in the coming weeks and has promised to continue to invest in the Women’s Basketball program.
Currently, the Hokies have the #8 ranked recruiting class in the nation coming to Blacksburg as well as multiple promising freshmen. Keeping the roster in tact will be a monumental challenge for the program.
More information on potential candidates for the vacant head coaching position will be reported on when available. Insider reports have reiterated that the university and athletic department are committed to the highest levels of financial and infrastructural support to make it a competitive place for national championships. For now, the Hokies have lost one of the most influential and successful head coaches in university history.
