Rangy offensive tackle Web Davidson commits to Virginia Tech
Web Davidson chooses the Hokies
If there’s one thing coaches can’t stress enough, it’s the importance of the trenches. The outcome of the game is largely decided by the guys with one hand in the dirt. Luckily for Virginia Tech offensive line coach Ron Crook, his line just got better tonight with the addition of Web Davidson. Davidson, a 6”7’, 296lb offensive tackle, has great size and tenacity that you just can’t teach. He is ranked as a three-star recruit and 62nd best player in the state of Georgia.
Davidson got some early offers from Michigan State, UCF, and Georgia Tech. He also landed an offer from offensive line guru Sam Pittman at Arkansas. He landed his VT offer during the spring evaluation period in May. He visited Blacksburg officially on June 23rd and named the Hokies his leader. He wasn’t swayed away from his statement and returned for the July cookout and announced his intentions to dawn the maroon and orange.
His Blacksburg official visit was the only one he took this summer.
Davidson anchored the offensive line for the Tattnall Square (Macon, GA) Trojans. They had a 6-4 regular season record and 3-1 in the region. They lost in the second game of the ultra competitive Georgia high school football playoffs.
Davidson has an obvious love for the game and he shows it in his play. He has great footwork and fires off the ball quickly. He can be seen just overpowering his opposition, just tossing them out of the way. He seals the edge nicely on pass plays and opens up gaps in the run.
Offensive line has been a talking point during this offseason, and new position coach Ron Crook hasn’t wasted much time bolstering the room. Davidson has a lane to early playing and his strength and technique might sweeten the deal.
