Virginia Tech vs. Vermont | Saturday, December 16, 4:00 p.m. | Blacksburg, VA

Final: VT 73, Vermont 51

Jaydon Young and Brandon Rechsteiner looked great in the 18-point win over a solid Vermont team. The two freshmen had no turnovers, and taking the brunt of minutes for Sean Pedulla, who’s coming back from a foot injury.

The defense is making great jumps this year, limiting Vermont’s options greatly. The Catamounts had 17 points at the half, which speaks to the defensive efficiency of the Hokies. Even with Pedulla, Hunter Cattoor, and Lynn Kidd logging limited time on the floor, the team put a great game in the books.

Kidd led with 17 points, and Tyler Nickel followed with 13 in 30 minutes. He’s been getting more time on the floor after his last few games, looking great in Mike Young’s scheme.

Takeaways from this Week

You’ve got to like the Hokies this year. They’re 8-3 and playing well. Nickel is great in the starting lineup, boosting a beyond-capable offense from all areas of the floor. ACC play is going to be difficult with five ranked teams, but the Hokies have the firepower to pull off a few upsets.

Me Ronnie

Born into a family of Hokies, I can remember watching Frank Beamer and Tyrod Taylor on Saturdays with the family, so attending VT was always the dream.

In 2020, I began my time at Virginia Tech in the Sports Media Analytics program and eventually joined the Sons in January of 2023 as the softball beat writer. Now, I’ve got football, basketball, and baseball coverage, plus you’ll see some of my photographs in articles throughout the website.

Graduation is on the horizon, but I can’t wait to come back in the fall to begin my Master’s and continue working with the team!
