Catching up with 5 | Special Guest Justin Robinson
The golden age of Virginia Tech basketball *so far* was the 4-year run from 2016-2019. That run does not happen without Justin Robinson, AKA '5'. He came in as a 4-star point guard and left the Hokies as the all-time leader in assists, and one of the best careers in Virginia Tech Athletics history. He is one of the best ambassadors of Virginia Tech athletics today and continues to embody Ut Prosim across each aspect of his life. Billy Ray sat down to discuss a wide array of topics both on the court and off the court.
We spent the first half of the podcast career from the very beginning. High school recruitment from Buzz, those first few years learning alongside Seth Allen, all the way up until he was handed the keys and taking on some of the best point-guards in the nation night in and night out. What exactly was it like to play for Buzz Williams? What were the biggest lessons and experiences molded the team into what we saw in that magical 2018-19 season? That historic night at home against Syracuse. What was the process of coming back from that foot injury your senior year and how did that effect you mentally? Emotions of that final tip off and ovation from the Cassell Guard. We cover it all and a whole lot more.
We also covered Justin's life post Virginia Tech. After one year of professional hoops under his belt, what has he learned and what is he looking forward to? 2020 has been a rough year for a lot of folks and Justin has made it his focus to both hone in on his craft and uplift those around him. A large portion of this is constructed through his personal brand Production > Hype. Most notably, Justin teamed up with the American Heart association to raise funds in honor of his late father through the sales of his "Hearts Matter" Shirts.
In honor of my dad, I decided to release a VR “Hearts Matter” @prodoverhype shirt with all proceeds being donated to @American_Heart. Love you and miss you dad❤️ pic.twitter.com/lDhfK9Irg3
