Hanging Out with Coach Ham!

Justin Hamilton Virginia Tech

This episode rocks, y’all. No other way around it. First off, Pat, Billy Ray and myself want to extend a monumental thank you to Coach Justin Hamilton for taking the time to sit down on his Sunday afternoon and chat with all of us. The man is wise beyond his years.

Before the Coach Ham interview, we kicked this week’s Three Big Things off by discussing the transfer portal, the departure of Robert Wooten and Alec Bryant, and the current optics of #TX2VT. We also dove head first into the positive upswing in recruiting, as this coaching staff has been able to land three of the top fifteen rated players in the Commonwealth of Virginia. When’s the last time that happened? Seriously. Because I genuinely don’t remember. Either way, it’s huge for the program. Let’s keep this momentum going into the stratosphere.

The obvious big time headline out of Blacksburg this weekend was Gunner Givens’ Friday commitment to Virginia Tech. Givens is the 4th best Interior Offensive Lineman in the Commonwealth, and the 5th ranked overall recruit in Virginia. Needless to say, we’re extremely fired up about the 6-5, 270 lb kid from Lord Boutetourt High School. Mr. Babcock, we think sending Coach Vance Vice and his family an edible arrangement is in order.

The third Big Thing on today’s episode was our sit down interview with Virginia Tech Football defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton. After talking to Coach Ham for an hour and a half, it makes so much sense as to why Head Coach Justin Fuente called him to replace legendary DC Bud Foster upon his retirement. This is a man that all of Hokie Nation would suit up for. He tells us detailed stories about how his initial position at Virginia Tech came to be, how he earned his spot on the V-shaped desk, and much more.

We hope all of Hokie Nation enjoys this episode as much as we did recording it. Now let’s have a great week y’all!
