Thursdays contest marked the 54th meeting between the Virginia Tech Hokies and the West Virginia Mountaineers. The two teams fought what was a close game for 3 quarters, but ultimately ended with Mountaineer faithful singing Country Roads in Lane Stadium and heading back to Morgantown with the Black Diamond trophy with a rematch not currently on the schedule.
