The Rise of VTWBB! | Special Guest: Head Coach Kenny Brooks

By Billy Ray Mitchell | July 15

Enter Coach Kenny Brooks. A JMU graduate who took the Dukes to heights they had never seen.

• An at large bid for the NCAA tournament for only the second time ever for a CAA team. ('07)

• The first NCAA Tournament win in school history. ('13)

• Tied a school record with 29 wins and a top 25 ranking. ('14)

Fast forward to 2020, and Coach Brooks just wrapped up his 5th and most successful season at Virginia Tech. In a season that was heartbreakingly cut short, the Hokies racked up program record 11 ACC victories, 21 wins overall, and essentially a lock for their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006. Although the Hokies didn't get to hear their name called this year on the selection show, this was a monumental season and is another step in building a big time program right here in Blacksburg.

In this interview, Coach Brooks goes into his decision to come to Blacksburg back in March of 2016, and the support he received from his family to allow that to happen. The Hokies also had TEN young ladies on the Academic Honor Roll. We discussed how the culture established within the program has led to fantastic results both on and off the Hardwood.

VTWBB is in excellent hands and we are lucky to have Coach Brooks at the helm!
