2022 Offensive Lineman Picks Virginia Tech
The Hokies strike once again, this time in an almost unexpected commitment from Xavier Chaplin. The news about this commitment seemed to have made its way slowly to Hokie fans across the nation on Monday. Nonetheless, the 2022 offensive lineman out of Seabrook, South Carolina committed to Virginia Tech and joined up with the Vice Squad. This announcement only adds onto the momentous month of July that the Hokies have been having thus far.

When we look at the most recent measurements for Xavier Chaplin, the 2022 OL comes in at 6-6 and weighing in at 370 pounds. The sheer size of Chaplin made him stand out to Offensive Line Coach Vance Vice. And on film, you can see why you might want a player like Chaplin on your side of the field. His large frame helps him get secured leading blocks for his running backs. Chaplin does have a bit of work to do in terms of hand placement and form, but if corrected, Vance Vice should have himself a steal of a recruit.
As of now, Chaplin holds no official rating on any recruiting site. However, his film should be evaluated during the next few weeks, meaning we could see where analysts place him amongst others. Expect to see some form of rating come in the near future for this 2022 offensive lineman.
The Hokies offered Chaplin early last month and even had him come up for a visit to Blacksburg. Other schools that showed some interest in Chaplin during his recruitment were Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, and Florida State. However, earning his first Power 5 offer from Virginia Tech, Chaplin decided to stay true to the staff that took a chance on him. Vance Vice is sure to work with Chaplin to utilize his 6-6, 370 frame in the best way possible.
Xavier Chaplin now becomes the seventeenth commit of the Hokie's 2022 recruiting class and is the now the first player to commit out of the state of South Carolina for Virginia Tech. Welcome Xavier to the Hokie family!
