Beating out South Carolina in a recruiting battle? Yes, Virginia Tech has just landed a commitment from D'Andre Martin. The Life Christian Academy player chose the Hokies this afternoon and made his choice known on his social media accounts.

Last measured, Martin came in with a height of 6-3.5 and weighing in at 293 pounds. His film shows an athlete with a great combination of size and speed on the defensive line position. He shows that he can work around opposing offensive tackles with a showing of shiftiness and handwork after the initial contact. And it seems that D'Andre Martin is gaining more size to utilize on the end spot, if that is where he may land for the Hokies.
As of now, D'Andre Martin holds a 247 Sports rating of an .8700 (3-Star) and is ranked as the 21st player out of North Carolina in 2022. Martin has still yet to be evaluated by other major recruiting sites, so a bump in his rating and ranking could easily come after his commitment to the Hokies.
The Hokies offered Martin back in the month of June, and it has seemed to be a true two-man race until today. The main two schools involved in Martin's recruitment were Virginia Tech and South Carolina, with other offers from schools like Florida State, Tennessee, and UVA. The battle between the Hokies and the Gamecocks was a close one, with South Carolina being hot on the Virginia trail with new Head Coach Shane Beamer. However, a collective effort between Co-Defensive Line Coach JC Price and Cornerbacks Coach Ryan Smith made a future in Blacksburg hard to pass up on for Martin.
D'Andre Martin becomes the twentieth commitment of the Hokies 2022 Recruiting Class and will become the third commit out of the state of North Carolina. Welcome D'Andre to the Hokie family!
