2022 DE Rashaud Pernell on his Unofficial Visit

The NCAA dead period ended earlier this week on the first of June. We saw loads of recruits make their way to Blacksburg, Virginia to check out what the Virginia Tech Football program has to offer. Lets get into the news of the week and what you should know going forward:

757 to VT - On Wednesday, we saw in-state DL Lemar Law Jr commit to the Hokies. This was not a huge surprise to fans, as Law Jr had received a few crystal ball predictions inside the week of his commitment. However, this commitment is huge get for the staff both figuratively and literally.

Lemar Law Jr measured up to be 6'5, 300 pounds in his latest measurements taken. His placement on the inside of the defensive line will help out the issues surrounding that area as of lately. As of now, Law Jr is rated as a .8500 (3-Star) according to 247 Sports.

Closed Borders - 2022 LB Edwin Wilson Tara Kolenge was slated to make his official visits this month to schools like Virginia Tech and Indiana. However, unforeseen circumstances have once again closed down the borders between the US and Canada. Sadly, this means that the Canadian born linebacker will not be able to make his visits within the month of June and will have to wait until the fall season to do them.

Currently, the 2022 linebacker is rated a .8751 (3-Star) according to 247 Sports and is ranked as the 509th best player in his class. The Hokies have received multiple crystal balls in favor of Kolenge and still seem to be the team leading his recruitment. It is evident that this recruit is eager to visit Blacksburg and grow closer to a final decision for his recruitment.

Never Too Late - It was announced this week that 2022 WR Jaden Watkins out of Asheville, North Carolina had scheduled an official visit with the Hokies for this weekend. Watkins is a 6'3, 175 pound wide receiver that the Hokies offered back in February. He holds offers from schools like Maryland, Rutgers, and Pittsburgh.

Right now, Watkins is rated as a .8600 (3-Star) on 247 Sports and ranks as the 23rd best player in the state of North Carolina. The addition of Watkins, and the growth of his recruitment with the Hokies, could lead to a valued commitment later on. The only other schools Watkins has confirmed official visits with as of now are Duke and Vanderbilt.

Who Was in Town? - The dead period ended on June 1st, and this meant that recruits from all over the eastern seaboard were finding their way into Blacksburg. Some of the big names we saw were:

OT Gunner Givens - 0.9547 (4-Star)

TE Harrison Saint-Germain - 0.8427 (3-Star)

DE Rashaud Pernell - 0.8617 (3-Star)

TE Mathias Barnwell - 0.9348 (4-Star)

RB Ramon Brown - 0.9247 (4-Star)

DB Braylon Johnson - 0.8800 (3-Star)

DT Lemar Law Jr - 0.8500 (3-Star)

OG Joshua Miller - 0.8700 (3-Star)

OG Hunter Mclain - NR (No Stars)

DT Gilbert Tongrongou - NR (No Stars)

There were many more than the names listed, but these recruits are those who we are most likely to hear more from in terms of their recruitment involving Virginia Tech.
