Football Recruiting Update: 7/30/21
A lot has come about in the month of July for the Virginia Tech Recruiting Staff. We have seen highly-rated players commit, on-going visits that continue to bring in young talent to showcase their skills, and the decisions of certain recruits narrowing down by the day. There is a lot to cover, so here we go:
Club Four Star - During the month of July, the Hokies have been responsible for bringing in two of the state's highest rated players to their commitment list. This came from the help of RB Ramon Brown and OL Gunner Givens, who both hold a 4-Star rating on 247 Sports.
First of the two commitments came from Ramon Brown out of Manchester High School in Midlothian, Virginia. Ultimately, Brown's decision came down to a group of Virginia Tech, Maryland, Penn State, South Carolina, and West Virginia. The relationship built between Coach Lechtenberg and Coach Smith made the in-state runningback's decision easier on his decision day.
Next, we saw OL Gunner Givens out of Lord Botetourt in Daleville, Virginia commit to the Hokies. Givens narrowed down his decision from a pool of candidates that included Virginia Tech, Penn State, North Carolina, Clemson, and Alabama. However, with Givens being a local recruit of the southwestern Virginia area, his closeness to home ended up playing a factor in his commitment.
Keep an Eye Out - With the summer nearing its end next month, and recruiting classes filling up, there are some names to look out for.
CB Cam Johnson (0.8952, 4-Star)
DL D'Andre Martin (0.8700, 3-Star)
CB Mansoor Delane (0.8466, 3-Star)
LB Tyler Banks (0.8416, 3-Star)
DL Santana Hopper (0.8958, 4-Star)
With the 2022 Virginia Tech Recruiting Class filling up, these are the main names to pay attention to going forward. There have been signs that there is a strong interest between these recruits and the Virginia Tech program.
It is notable to mention that DL D'Andre Martin will be making his college decision on August 1st between Virginia Tech and South Carolina. Also, LB Tyler Banks is cousin to former Virginia Tech LB Rayshard Ashby, so we could possibly see more from the Hokie tradition of family.
#HardHatHunt - The newly formed Virginia Tech Recruiting Staff has pulled out yet another new event for recruits on campus. This time we saw the staff utilize a bit of campus scavenger hunt to their advantage.
We saw a handful of Virginia Tech players on roster host a group of recruits, serving as their leader for the scavenger hunt. The groups would have to seek out certain objects or places around campus then post a picture with it. This was a unique way to have recruits explore the campus with each other and to see the school in its entirety. Well done by this innovative idea from the recruiting staff.
