Christian Gurdak, who had visited Notre Dame and had offers from Penn State, Iowa, and Maryland, ultimately chose Virginia Tech.

The Hokies grabbed there biggest commitment for the 2025 class so far in big man Christian Gurdak.

The Hokies were early on Gurdak, and have led the race ever since he was a freshman in high school. The 6'9" center received offers from Notre Dame, Maryland, Clemson, Penn State, and others. Gurdak ranks as the #98 recruit in the class of 2025 (#12 center) according to 247Sports.com and the #4 player in Washington, D.C.

This will be the second consecutive recruiting class where the Hokies have grabbed a top rated big man. In the 2024 class, the Hokies landed Gainesville, FL native Ryan Jones, Jr. who ranked as the #82 player in the nation.

Gurdak joins Sincere Jones in the 2025 class. Both players are bigs, showing Tech's commitment to brining in length from the high school ranks. Jones, from Portsmouth, VA, ranks at the #217 player in the class currently.

Gurdak is a smooth, methodical big man who has shown a good ability to finish at the rim as well as distribute the ball as a passer. He's more of a big body type than Jones, Jr., and relies on a classic post game to score. For his size, Gurdak runs the floor very well and has showed a high motor. He has a knack for slowing the game down when needed and limiting turnovers. In high school, he's played against some of the best competition in the mid-Atlantic, so his film is a good indication of his ability against future D1 players.

With Mike Young's track record of developing big men into double-digit scorers, Gurdak could be a really vital piece to the program in the coming years. Partnered with Ryan Jones, Jr. and Sincere Jones, the Hokies have a solid group of young big men coming into the program.
