Hokies Football Trailer SZN
If there's one thing Hokies fans love in late August, it's a Virginia Tech football trailer. You know, the highlight reel hype videos that get us all fired up for the season.
As far back as 2009 (which was a great year for Hokies trailer content btw), I would scour YouTube looking for the best ones. I was obsessed with them - would watch them over and over waiting for game day. These days, I not only love them because they make me want to run through a wall while sitting at my work desk, but those from years past also serve as a Tech football time capsule or sorts. You can get a sense for which players we were excited about, what the vibes around that team were, and bring back the feeling of what the hopes were for that year.
Last week, I rewatched the Sons trailer from 2021 (courtesy of Grayson Wimbish). I was instantly transported back to the thought of us facing top 10 UNC - the first game with fans after the pandemic - and what an epic night that was in Blacksburg.
With the downturn in VT's football performance in recent seasons, there's been less and less of these cult classics. However, just in the past week or so, things have taken a fortunate turn...

Our very own Adam Rothe got us started on August 19th with his "Hope Renewed" trailer on X. It has a dramatic soundtrack, some great crowd shots, talking head clips from the likes of Josh Pate and Lee Corso, and, obviously, some sweet 2023 highlights. It's sure to get you juiced up. Well done, Adam!
Next up was an installment from an OG, Michael Stawther. He put out "The 2024 Virginia Tech Hokies Football Trailer" on August 23rd, and once it started making the rounds, people were in love. This trailer took a more cinematic approach, starting with some beautiful shots of campus before adding in workout and highlight footage, with well known voices laid overtop. It is outstanding. As far as I can tell, Michael had not put out his own VT trailer since 2016, so it was nice to see him post something again, particularly, a video of this quality. He and fellow VT trailer veteran, Billy Berlin, better known as BilldozerVT, have collaborated on some awesome videos in the past. Speaking of Billdozer...
Billy Berlin posted his "2024 Virginia Tech Football Trailer" on TheKeyPlay.com on August 26th (https://www.thekeyplay.com/virginia-tech-football/2024/08/24475/2024-virginia-tech-football-trailer). This trailer rules. It's a little more upbeat than the first two, has great voiceover work, and will no doubt get you pumped.
TKP has a long history of putting out amazing content, and Billy is one of the major reasons why. His 2013 collaboration trailer with Stawther is a masterpiece - probably my favorite VT hype video of all time (embedded below). I have known Billy and his brother Andrew for a number of years, and they are some of the most die-hard Hokies fans I've ever encountered (along with Andrew's wife, Sarah).
The last video I'll link is from a younger content creator known as vatech_editz on YouTube, IG, and TikTok (@Vatecheditz on X https://x.com/Vatecheditz). He recently posted his "Blacksburg Nights" 2024 hype video in a release with The Tech Lunch Pail (https://techlunchpail.com/blog/the-2024-virginia-tech-hokies-football-season-hype-video).
This trailer really goes for the nostalgia factor, intertwining clips from the past with shots of current players. Very well done. The remix of Zach Bryan's American Nights tied the whole thing together - had me dreaming of Tech returning to glory.
This is just a small sample of all the great video work done by Hokienation, which includes the work of Zach Lantz and the rest of our media staff who make these trailers possible by producing so many high-quality original cuts. I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention VTim or Jordan Long for their contributions to the VT trailer genre over the years (and probably more I can't remember) - your work was, and is, appreciated.
Just like I've repeatedly said about the podcast space, we are lucky to have this many video content creators who love Virginia Tech. Keep up the good work, and let's go Hokies!
