Hokies Keep 4-Star OL Home
It’s always a great pull for the Hokies when they land a top-rated offensive line prospect right out of their backyard. Gunner Givens from Lord Botetourt High School made his decision public today through his social media accounts. The 2022 offensive lineman announced his commitment to the Hokies live on CBS Sports on Friday.

In his last round of measurements, Givens came in at 6-5 for his height and 270 pounds for his weight. He has also shown that he can utilize his large frame to play many positions on the football field (Offensive Line, Defensive Line, and Tight End). His film shows the same thing, with Gunner having a strong showing on both sides of the ball. However, most of Givens’ film pins him on the offensive line, which has been his main position throughout his recruitment. His strength and mobility at the offensive tackle spot has made him a highly touted player at that position. However, there have been talks that Givens may explore defensive line more heavily when he enrolls at Virginia Tech.
Currently, Gunner Givens holds a 247 Sports rating of an 0.9466 (4-Star) and is ranked as the 131st best player in his class. Although we’ve seen a small bump on his ratings, Givens could elevate himself back to a higher standing, as he is poised for a huge senior season.
Givens landed his offer from the Hokies in September of 2019. Soon after that, his recruitment started to pickup as he received offers from schools like Clemson, Oklahoma, and Alabama. And with such a long list of schools, Gunner seemingly found himself with a final two of Virginia Tech and Penn State. The relationship built between Gunner, his family, and the Virginia Tech Coaching Staff kept him home for his college choice to build on the #VA2VT movement.
Gunner Givens will now become the nineteenth commitment for the Hokie’s 2022 Recruiting Class and will serve as the seventh in-state commit. Welcome Gunner to the Hokie family!
