Former Virginia Tech wide receiver and current Miami Dolphins pass-catcher Isaiah Ford will be featured in Thursday Night Football this week, as the 'Phins head to Jacksonville to take on the Gardner Minshew-led Jacksonville Jaguars.

While Ford is one of several pro Hokies to keep an eye out for on a weekly basis in the NFL, this week's match-up for Ford and Miami with Jacksonville offers a bit more intrigue than others.

That's because it's a homecoming affair for Ford, who is a Jacksonville native.

Prior to becoming one of the most decorated wide receivers in school history for Virginia Tech, Ford starred at Trinity Christian Academy at the high school level, where he earned a high 3-star designation from 247Sports and was recruited heavily to play college football.

Ford ultimately chose Virginia Tech, where he emerged as one of the best pass-catchers in the ACC. Ford hauled in 210 receptions in his three seasons with the Hokies for 2,967 yards and 24 touchdowns. Ford parlayed his successful three-year collegiate career into a budding pro career, where he has worked his way up from a late-round selection and practice squad player to a rotational receiver with the Miami Dolphins. His role in 2020 is his largest yet, as he has hauled in nine receptions for 89 yards in Miami's first two games of the season. Ford has found himself on the field in several three-receiver sets for the Dolphins throughout the early portion of this NFL season.

Ford's trek from high school star in Jacksonville to eventual NFL receiver has been quite the journey. Ford highlighted what it means to him to be able to go home to Duval County and play in his hometown on the Miami Dolphins' official Twitter account earlier this week.

Ford and the Dolphins will look to notch their first win of the season against the Jags on Thursday night, with kickoff set for 8:20. Here's hoping Ford's homecoming is a successful one for both himself and the team.

Mike Mcd

As a first generation Hokie, I can't say that Virginia Tech has always been in my blood, but I can say unequivocally that I bleed maroon and orange now. I graduated from the Pamplin College of Business in 2015 with a double major in accounting and finance, and have parlayed that into a five-year career in government compliance consulting in the Washington D.C. metro area where I grew up. At Tech, I enjoyed going to as many sporting events as I could, playing four years for the Club Golf team, and realizing my passion for writing and creating content.

I have previously written for Gobbler Country on the SB Nation network, Fighting Gobbler for Fansided, InsideTheACC.com, The Tech Lunch Pail, and most recently for Sports Illustrated's All Hokies, where I was the lead publisher.

In addition to writing, I am also co-host of Basketball Conference: The ACC Football Podcast and the Hokie Hangover Podcast covering Virginia Tech athletics.

I'm passionate about Virginia Tech, but also hope to bring an objective and journalistic background to enhance the already fantastic athletic coverage here at Sons of Saturday.
