The #VA2VT Movement has secured another member with the help of in-state defensive end Rashaud Pernell. His decision was made public last night, just a bit past midnight, when he took his commitment to his social media accounts. The addition of Pernell's commitment as only added fuel to Virginia Tech's Recruiting for the month of July.

In his latest go-around of measurements, Pernell came in at 6-4 and 250 pounds in weight. And with some speculation of Pernell possibly moving to the defensive tackle spot once he arrives at Virginia Tech, his frame would allow him to get up to that needed size. Film wise, we see Pernell utilize amazing hand placement and body movement to get to the quarterback. His sheer power alone makes him a trouble for opposing offensive linemen to deal with. And if we do end up seeing Pernell make that move to the inside spot of the defensive line, I think he could perhaps become even more of a force.

Currently, we see Pernell hold a rating of an .8617 (3-Star) on 247 Sports and he is also ranked as the 20th player coming out of Virginia this cycle. Something very notable though is that Pernell's composite rating for the same site marks him around the .8900 rating mark, which is fringe 4-Star range. I would not be surprised to see a bump in ratings come for the 2022 defensive end.

We saw the Virginia Tech Staff offer Pernell in May of 2020, so to say the Hokies have been on his radar for a while now is an understatement. However, when his recruitment started to narrow, the Hokies battled it out with schools like Boston College, Minnesota, Wake Forest, and Coastal Carolina. The real battle seemed to be between the Hokies and the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest for the 2022 recruit. Even so, a strong push by Cornerbacks Coach Ryan Smith and Co-Defensive Line Coach JC Price showed to be too much for the other schools looking to secure Pernell.

Rashaud Pernell now becomes the sixteenth commitment for the Hokie's 2022 Recruiting Class and will now be the fifth commit out of the state Virginia for this cycle. Welcome Rashaud to the Hokie family!
