In this edition of Hokie History we look at a matchup that has produced many close and memorable games.

It truly was a spooky month of October as Virginia Tech fans saw no wins from the Football program. However, the Hokies are looking to bounce back in a matchup that has been favorable in the series history.

This week Virginia Tech (2-6, 1-4 ACC) looks to snap a five game losing skid as they host Georgia Tech (3-5, 2-3 ACC) in a rivalry in which the Hokies hold an all time record of 11-7.

As the Hokies move along in the season looking for growth, Head coach Brent Pry desperately needs a win against a struggling Georgia Tech team that will likely be without their starting Quarterback Jeff Sims.

The Hokies host Georgia Tech for the first time since 2018, hoping to get a third win in a row against the Yellow Jackets. As Georgia Tech comes in with Interim Head Coach Brent Key to face Brent Pry, these teams will battle for rights of the Best Brent in the ACC.

In the last meeting between VT and GT, we saw a career performance from former Hokie Tre Turner. Last year against the Yellow Jackets, Turner caught 7 passes for 178 yards with his longest going for a 69 yard touchdown to open up the scoring at 7-0.

See Tre Turner's highlights against Georgia Tech below.

The first meeting between these two teams was before Virginia Tech had joined the ACC in 1990. In a highly defense matchup the Yellow Jackets, who were 8-0 and ranked #7 in the Nation at the time, squeaked out a 6-3 win in the last out of conference matchup between the two programs. Georgia Tech would go that season with an undefeated record and a share of the National Championship.

In 2019, the Hokies notched their most impressive victory against the Yellow Jackets in a 45-0 win. In the largest margin of victory in the history of this matchup, the Hokies blew out Georgia Tech in an away game in which current Heisman favorite Hendon Hooker accounted for three touchdowns. In this game we also saw a pick six from current Tennessee Titans Cornerback and Hokie Alum Caleb Farley. The Virginia Tech defense only allowed 134 yards in Bud Foster’s last meeting as Defensive Coordinator against Georgia Tech.
