Hokies Pickup a Pair of Commitments
Lightning struck twice for the Hokies on Saturday afternoon when they picked up a pair of commitments from two of their 2022 targets. The commitments came from 2022 LB Xavier Simmons and 2022 TE Matt Hoffman. Simmons reigns out of Greensboro, North Carolina while Hoffman comes out of Wyncote, Pennsylvania. Both took their news to Twitter on Saturday to announce their decision to become Hokies.

When looking at Simmons, he measures up at 6-3, 225 pounds in his most recent measurements. His elite speed, matched up with an amazing field vision, has made him a force to be reckoned with in the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference. And with a new found home in Virginia Tech and a wide-eyed coach in Jack Tyler, Simmons is looking to make a name for himself fast in Blacksburg.
Now for Hoffman, the tight end comes in at 6-4, 240 pounds for his most recent camp measurements. Hoffman has great film at the defensive end spot, however he will be coming in for the Hokies to play the tight end. Coach Shibest is looking to make this mostly defensive player and turn him into a versatile offensive weapon.
According to 247 Sports, Simmons is rated at a 0.8891 (3-Star) and is ranked as the 379th player in the nation. He also holds a .9100 composite rating from 247 Sports as well, which would lean to him possibly earning a fourth star in the future. The 2022 linebacker made his way to the Hokies, after having a final grouping of schools that included NC State, North Carolina, and Missouri.
When looking at Hoffman, he is rated at a .8400 (3-Star) and is ranked as the 30th player out of the state of Pennsylvania. Hoffman seemed to be slated to end up in Blacksburg, with only Temple seeming to be the other true contender for his commitment. His decision to announce his commitment to the Hokies was no true surprise to recruiting buffs, but was welcomed nonetheless.
The pair serve as the eighth and ninth commitments of the 2022 recruiting class for the Hokies. This boosts the Hokies up to the 26th spot for 2022 class rankings and also places them at 4th in the ACC thus far. Simmons becomes the first commit out of the state of North Carolina for this class and Hoffman becomes the second out of Pennsylvania. Welcome them both to the Hokie family, and keep an eye out for them in the future.
